Before & After Care
A heritage-affirming Education
Our curriculum was developed in partnership with anti-racist educators and consultants. Each subject is designed to deepen student’s knowledge of their heritage while mastering skills and sparking curiosity.
We use research-backed methods to advance student achievement, and increase parent participation in student learning experiences and academics. Our curriculum is steeped in exposure to the diaspora to encourage students to not only dream big, but see representation that achievement is possible for them at the highest level.
CLASS CAPACITY
25 student average!
Small class sizes are ideal for anyone looking to get the most out of their education, and PEACE Academy offers just that. With each classroom having 25 students or less, our teachers have plenty of time to devote to every student and make sure they’re getting the best possible learning experience. It also encourages open communication between both fellow classmates and teachers. This adds a level of comfort that results in greater performance in academics, which is something all of our students take advantage of! At PEACE Academy we make class sizes a priority; our small environment allows us to stay true to our core values.
As a community school, we offer:
-
INTENTIONAL CULTURAL
IMMERSION
The world is a rich and beautiful place filled with amazing people, and our students deserve to experience themselves and their heritage as integral parts of this collective beauty. Our daily cultural studies class, rooted in an Afro-centric curriculum, assists students in developing a full and beautiful picture of themselves through intentional affirmation. We believe improving self confidence will accelerate our student’s academics.
- PROBLEM SOLVING AND INQUIRY BASED LEARNING
Once a month, we facilitate inquiry by providing real world questions to students without giving them the answers. We give them resources to help build their understanding of multiple perspectives toward those questions. We provide students the opportunity to brainstorm new solutions to those problems. Our school schedule builds in time for students to design artifacts that demonstrate their learning and solutions to those real world problems.
- FIELD EXPERIENCES AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Aligned with the “Question of the Month,” the monthly field experiences provide opportunities for students to dive more deeply into real world challenges. PEACE students explore different community organizations and leaders to gain exposure to colleges, careers, and experiences.
- READING AND LITERACY
Reading is the foundation of success in all subjects. PEACE students receive two blocks of literacy daily as well as two additional opportunities for targeted support during the week.
- FAMILY-CENTERED SERVICES
There are several opportunities for our families to volunteer and learn what their children are studying and receive support in ways they can continue the learning at home.
Just like all public schools, PEACE Academy Charter School must uphold the same state requirements and guidelines. You can access our data here.
Coding program
Creating 21st century Community problem-solvers
Applying 21st century skills to our community problems allows students to see themselves as solutionist at any age.
In our coding program, students identify a problem they experience in their own community. Then, learn how to create an app to solve that problem.
